Here are the Six Biggest Picture Framing Mistakes to Avoid:
They don’t protect the artwork or photograph with a mat or spacers. Spacers should be part of your frame package. They create space between the artwork and the glass. They’ll ensure the image doesn’t get stuck to the glass.
They don’t have a backing that protects. People don’t realise that what you put at the back of the picture matters…a lot. When you get your piece framed, ask about the options available for backings. Ideally, you want to use a backing that is acid-free. You could also add a 2 ply foam or 100% cotton mounting board.
They pick the wrong mounting style for the image. If you want white space around your image to help it stand out, then select a blank mat. The image sits on top of it.
They buy a frame from a $2 Shop. Your Framing is an Investment! Whether you are protecting your memories or investing in a piece of art, you should invest in Quality Framing. You need a good frame, glass, a matt board that frames the picture, a mounting board that sits behind the picture.
They pick the wrong frame to showcase the piece. Consider the overall colour tone of the artwork and piece when selecting your frame- rather than trying to match it with certain colours in the piece. Lighter coloured frames suit fun, casual pieces. Darker coloured frames suit more formal, important pieces.
They have the same coloured frame and matt colour. Be sure to use different colours in your matt board and your frame, otherwise you draw more attention to the frame itself, rather than the artwork. We also offer a range of glass from acrylic to museum glass types to finish off your framing project. So drop into our Studio and speak to the experts.
